Useless Gadgets You Should Stop Wasting Money On

Landline Phones There’s one big reason that people keep a landline at home: 911 calls. The landline runs off power from the telephone line itself (a neat precursor to power over ethernet) so if there’s a blackout, the calls still go through (unless you have a cordless handset, of course). And because a landline is [...]

Welcome back

Hello world! Welcome to my new home on the web… icanhavepayday.com. I finally have TV, AT&T U-verse. It’s awesome. Did you know that Paris Hilton has a show where she’s looking for a new BFF? How did I live without TV? But seriously… The quality is great, the usability of the set top box/DVR is [...]

No joke, no TV

We STIIIIILLLL don’t have TV. The installer for Dish could only get a signal from the HD satellite, and the channels really weren’t what we wanted. It wasn’t worth the price. Aside from that, there was no place to ground the satellite, so if it got struck by lightning our TV would have gotten fried. [...]

Up in the Air

STILL no satellite for us. Dish never showed up, didn’t even call. I called about 5 million times and talked to sweet ladies in India who told me they were on their way, “1 hour away,” “they’ll be there in 20 minutes,” “they are 5 minutes away, they are right there.” They were supposed to [...]

Moving day

I’m sure the suspense was killing you all weekend.

Failing

So… My roommate and I were supposed to do our walk through and sign our lease today. My roommate was off of work and we both needed to be there so we met on my lunch break.  However, even though he had called yesterday and was told we could see the apartment today, it wasn’t [...]

Is renting right for me?

The savings incurred (versus owning) make sense when other financial objectives are more important, such as saving for a home, paying off student loans, or supporting family members

Problems

I had some drama involving my new apartment yesterday. I get a call from a guy at the apartment complex, and he says there is a problem with my apartment. He wanted to know if my roommate and I would be interested in one of the other floor plans we looked at. He pointed out that the other floor plan was cheaper. I was thinking someone died in there, or there was mold or it just wouldn’t be ready for us to move in on Friday (they were replacing the carpets). I figured we could probably handle it, so I asked what the “problem” was.

New Addresses

Yesterday I forgot to mention the best thing about my apartment, I’m now only 7 miles from work, instead of 21. Which means not only will my commute time be reduced to 1/3rd what it was, but so will my gas bill. Woo! My roommate had a longer commute than me, and now his will [...]

You’ve Been Approved

My roommate and I finally found an apartment we both like, we get the keys on Friday! Check back next Monday to see how moving went.
